Hot Jupiter planets can be kept at a constant temperature (facing the sun or in the shadow) by means of a hot wind that blows across the planet. Not all of the Hot Jupiters function this way and in some cases they can be molten on one side and frozen on the other. Hot Jupiters are locked in tidal orbit around their suns, so one side of the planet always faces the sun - much like the earth's moon.
