Mars Rover program draws budgetary scrutiny

Mars Rover

Despite the United States printing money in an orgy of deficit spending ala the Wiemar Republic, NASA's Mars Science Laboratory project is coming under budgetary criticism. According to MSNBC, people are concerned that the project budget has ballooned from $1.6 billion to $2.2 billion. While budget overruns should be seriously looked at, the US Senate just approved $820 some billion dollars to bail out private institutions. This is in addition to the $700 billion the same Senate approved less than 6 months ago. If Congress is going to get squeamish about cost, they need to start thinking about what sort of economy they are trying to build with these huge bailouts. One in which people can buy crap from K-Mart or one that is the world's leading manufacturer of cutting edge technologies?
