Planet Formation

Using NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope, Astronomers have created a map showing the areas of space where planets will not form due to proximity to an existing sun. The distance? 1.6 light years. The swirling mass of dust that exists will not form planets in that interlude of space. What's it mean? You'll always have to travel at least 1.6 light years to get between existing solar systems.
