Jet Man

The answer you entered to the math problem is incorrect.
ESG Gryphon Rocket Wings

Jet-Man is Yves Rossy from Switzerland. He has created this pair of carbon fiber wings with model jet engines attached to them. The wings, which turn him into the fabled 'Rocket Man' take some balls to operate.

  • He jumps out of a plane
  • Cuts the engines on
  • Waits for the engines to stabilize
  • Then fly for 6 1/2 minutes before making a parachute landing

This article is tagged only as 'weaponry' because I remember an article about personal sets of rocket enabled wings being used for elite soldiers. The idea being that soldiers would be able to fly in behind enemy lines far from the jet noise of their drop plane. While I can't help but think that I read this in popular science some time ago, It appears as though a German company has created the ESG Gryphon (which looks exactly like the image that I think I saw almost a year ago). There is a neat annotated image available at this blog.

This article is included in this site, however, because the wings are an amazing piece of personal mobility.
