NASA to build permanent moon base

Critical Path Innovation: Moon Colony, Weaponry, Groups and InstitutionsInstitutions: NASA

NASA plans to build a permanent moon base.

First of all, I would like to say sweet!

Secondly, I would like to say that I wish it wasn't NASA pushing this idea forward. Especially not during the Bush adminstration. With the Bush administrations stated objective of establishing military control of outer space this moon base idea seems a little bit dubious. My paranoia is somewhat worsened by my recent reading of Robert Heinlein's 'Expanded Universe'. One of his future predictions is the establishment of a moon base for the express purpose of lobbing bombs on enemy nations from space. Heinlein's idea is that the gravity well of earth would make the moon a wonderful low cost replacement for inter-continental rocket technology. My paranoia boils down to this - we would be building a moon base to 'drop' bombs on people.

I'm not sure that it is physically possible to 'drop' bombs on earth from the moon. I am unfortunately ignorant in the world of orbital physics (physics in general, actually). So, don't take me too seriously.

moon colony

Is safety a main concern for getting to or living on the moon? If safety is number one, then we may as well give up the effort. If Europe had done safety studies before sending ships with colonist to America the United States of America would not exist. Give us who are not afraid the opportunity to setup the moon base because safety is not a concern.

Lets just get on the moon and work on the problems as they come. We need to stop trying to guess what may be and go find out what is.

Need money -- fund raise like a politician. People will give if you show us real action! The moon is real, space flight is real, so get off your safety seat and let's go!
